Why I chose homeopathy...

Mary Krizka - Homeopathy by Homeopath in North West London - Acanthus HomeopathyI live with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a long-term chronic illness. Homeopathy helps me to optimise my level of health and well-being. As well as helping me with physical symptoms, it brings me energy and emotional support.

When I have an acute infection, for example, a sore throat or a stomach upset, I turn to homeopathic remedies first because I find that conventional medications are often difficult to cope with. They have side effects and can drain my energy. When the use of conventional drugs has been absolutely necessary, homeopathy has worked to minimise the side effects so that I can cope with them well. In addition, homeopathy has provided me with support, both mentally and emotionally, during challenging times...and gently replenished my energy levels when I have got through them.

For me, homeopathy plays a significant role in minimising the difficulties that a chronic illness can bring. It helps me to maintain and improve my quality of life.

My training

When I chose to study homeopathy, I wanted a thorough training in classical homeopathy that also encompassed basic health sciences. I undertook and completed a three-year, full-time honours degree course in Health Sciences: Homeopathy at the University of Westminster.

I am a registered member of the Society of Homeopaths which means that I practice in accordance with a Code of Ethics and Practice, hold professional insurance and have passed stringent academic and clinical assessments.

I undertake continuing professional development regularly and have participated in training in both the UK and India.

My practice

My homeopathic life is dedicated primarily to practical work - that is, I aim to work with a person's individual needs so that homeopathy can contribute to improving or maintaining their long-term health.

I hold clinics in West Hampstaed NW6. I see people of all ages with all sorts of conditions. My special interest is in how homeopathy may provide support for a person dealing with long-term chronic illness or undergoing serious therapeutic interventions such as surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy (consistent medical supervision is recommended). In addition, I have found that many people benefit from having a private space in which to talk quietly and openly about the issues in life that they feel are impacting on their health.

I periodically run classes for people new to homeopathy (Homeopathy at home) and put together a quarterly newsletter detailing how homeopathy can be used safely when needed in many first aid and acute situations.
